It always surprises me that when I speak to people with boats on the River Hamble and those that live close to it, how many have never travelled further up-river than Bursledon bridge or at most the M27 bridge. Ok, if you have a yacht or sailing dinghy that you can not step the mast you are not going to get past Bursledon bridge, but for all others, navigation is possible especially on a rising spring tide. How far can you go? Well for canoes and dinghies you can get as far as the Horse and Jockey pub and the bridge on the A3051 at Curbridge on the Eastern branch of the river, and the village of Botley on the Western branch. These two creeks are only accessible on high tides and it is best to travel up about an hour before first high and then the moment you see the water level start to drop, head back down river asap because its like a giant plug being pulled out and you don’t want to be sitting at the pub for another twelve hours, or do you! There are plenty of places to land and pick nick as well as dropping the hook for larger vessels. Look out for deer and other wildlife along the banks as well as King Fishers, Herons and Egrets. The kids are still trying to spot the legendry “Hippocrocadonk” that is reported to live in the reeds in the upper reaches of the Hamble!!!
As promised we're pleased to announce the winner of the Boatshed Suffolk Sunday Lunch competition draw run at last Sunday’s Suffolk Boat Jumble in Trinity Park Ipswich is........... Sheila Barnes, winning a 3 course Sunday Lunch for two at our local pub – The Butt & Oyster.
The astonishing view which will leave one quite breathless is undoubtedly the view of the Bay of Rijeka streaked with a myriad of white sails. Yachtsmen from across the world gather once a year at the Great Fiumanka regatta, which follows the route between Rijeka to Omisalj and back, and takes every ounce of strength from even the most experienced. This is regatta which gather so many positive people and good energy, there can be nothing but happy, and that none of their significance can not be reduced. Like last year Fiumanka sail into three categories and three routes. Traditional build regatta is sailing up to the mark in front of Porto Baros, family cruisers to the mark near Kostrena while regatta cruisers after the mark near Kostrena continues to sail to the mark in front of Omisalj ... and they all meat back at the finnish line in the port of Rijeka. Day before, Press Fiumanka sailing in the Triangle course in front of the port of Rijeka and Liburnijska regatta this year sail on the new route from Mali Losinj to Rijeka. See you in Rijeka, from 07 - 10 June on the 13th Fiumanka! For more information about regatta event please check: www.fiumanka.hr and for more information about some previous successful participants of Fiumanka available for sale: www.boatshedcroatia.com

Sunday’s Suffolk Boat Jumble saw a great turn out at Trinity Park despite a bracing breeze, the rain stayed away and even the sun made an appearance in the mid afternoon. The Boat Jumble organisers were blown away with the number of stall holders and visitors that came through the gate.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Nauticat 43. What more can I say about these fine Sparkman & Stephens designed, Finnish built yachts? Every time I go onboard I am still amazed at the volume inside – there is just so much room! On deck everything has been made as easy as possible with behind mast furling and lines led aft (two electric capstans make this even easier). Teak decks look great, engine was rebuilt in 2003, standing rigging by Graeme Harris in 2005 – it has all been done. She is well equipped with Westerbeke generator, two fridges and even a washing machine. The port cabin can be used as a workshop / bosuns locker. Early viewing is recommended as these Nauticats rarely come onto the market and they make comfortable long distance cruising such a pleasure. Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Gibsea 284 described by PBO as ‘A wolf in sheeps clothing’. This is also described as a potent performer and a lively coastal cruiser for a family. This model is fitted with the (a simple) lifting keel and twin bilge keels/plates. With her twin rudders she sits quite comfortably on good ground. I first viewed this yacht afloat and was struck by a well thought-out layout, clean tidy well presented condition and overall condition of the boat. Her shallow draft makes her ideal for shallow waters or those who like to take advantage of quieter backwaters. In summary, a really nice boat and one to be viewed soon. She is currently ashore and ‘ready to go’. Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.
Come and meet the Boatshed Suffolk Team at Ipswich boat jumble TODAY. From 10.00 onwards.

Noel and Jayne recently bought a great value sports boat; a Fletcher Arrowsport 16 which was for sale with Boatshed Essex and kindly agreed to be interviewed for our blog.
Just after the end of World War II the White Fish Authority were keen to re-start the cockle fishing industry. They designed and commissioned the building of 100 decked fishing boats with small aft wheel house, capable of collecting up to 6 tons of cockles. These vessels were made of mahogany planking on heavy steamed oak timbers by shipwrights at the Dauntless Boat Building Company at Canvey Island in Essex.
Some nasty things occurred in 1980, like the assassination of John Lennon and Johnny Logan got to number 1 with “What`s another year”! On the upside though, GPS was introduced and this Westerly Griffon started out in life and it really is someones lucky day as it has come up for sale! Please form an orderly queue to view this fine specimen. She is very, very well kept & cared for and has an extensive inventory and is easy to sail single handed, as she is equipped with “ Sailtainer in boom reefing system” and all lines are led aft. The vessel is epoxy coated below the waterline, has removable davits, an Aerogen wind generator & heating. I could go on but with space at a premium, check out the specification data & photos listed here and also bear in mind the upgrading and attention that the present owner has undertaken. It is Westerly Griffon lottery ticket time! Take a look at her, it could be you! To arrange a viewing contact Andy Wood broker at Boatshed North Wales.
This weekend is the Rickmansworth Canal Festival 2012 and Boatshed Grand Union are sponsoring it. We will also have a stand to display information about our narrowboats, barges, project boats and widebeams for sale on or near the Grand Union Canal and London.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Westerly Fulmar which was widely regarded as one of the most successful designs (though not in numbers as only about 400 were built) as the performance and handling was, and still is today, regarded as just ‘near perfect’. To quote the WOA “One does not really have to sail a Fulmar, one just lays a hand on the tiller and lets the boat take care of everything else, which she does without appreciable effort.” This example is presented for sale very clean and tidy and benefits from a recently (2011) refurbished engine. The headlinings have been replaced already and a nice touch is the Eberspacer heating. She is currently ashore and ‘ready to go’. Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.
