She was built to Eugene Cornu plans by Vandernotte shipyard in Nantes, France in 1961.
Eugene Cornu (1903-1987) designed the plans for many pleasure boats, renowned for both their elegance and strength. In the world of yachting, "Cornu" became a common name. The 1950s and 1960s saw the development of recreational boating, several drawings of E. Cornu gave birth to types of boats, manufactured in series like the famous "Beluga".
She is a cruiser/racer design.
The Vandernotte yard was also famous in this time for producing quality workmanship.
Other boats of this Cornu/Vandernotte combination include”Lady Mone” and “Rose Noire II” which are both listed as National heritage in France.
She was originally built for the “Societe Civile de voile et courses croisieres” in Paris who registered her home port as Algiers. She has her original papers !
She was then purchased in 1968 by Phillipe Barbier-Bouvet and Michel Bernadet who sailed her in the Med for 20 years.
She then spent a short time in Turkey before changing hands again to Gerhard Richert and Monique Van der Post who sailed her as “REMIS” for 19 years across the atlantic and the pacific, eventually arriving in Langkawi island, Malaysia.
Her present owner and restorer purchased her in Dec 2008 and returned her name to her original.

RESTORATION DETAILS.
She was slipped and pressure washed.
The planking looked to be fairly sound but when the anti-fouling was removed, some planks were found to have worm damage, these planks were replaced.
All of the original caulking was removed and the fastenings inspected.
The majority of fastenings were good but a few were replaced.
The topsides were stripped of paint and the old sponson removed.
A small amount of rot was present along the top edge of the top plank so some cap pieces were fitted.
She was re-caulked traditionally with oakum then the seams payed with 3M below the waterline.
The stem had a slight bit of damage from a bump some time ago and a new piece was scarfed in and bolted through.
The keel bolts were inspected and were sound.
The original canvas over plywood decks were completely removed and replaced with marine ply with epoxy dynal over.
All of the deck beams and bench shelf were found to be in excellent condition throughout.
The cabin sides and top were completely stripped and all portholes removed.
Some rot was found in the main cabin top where fresh water had been allowed to get in under the canvas. These planks were replaced and the whole top refastened and epoxy dynalled over.
The cabin sides (previously painted) were brought back to bare mahogany and varnished.
We were able to repair and save the original mahogany cockpit hatch plus the mahogany cockpit storage covers and all the other hatches were remade with Burmese teak.
All the sponsons, toe rails, handrails and trim were replaced new with Burmese teak, as well as the compass binnacle.
The interior was still original but very tired.
Because of it’s great design, down to the old brass hinges and ice chest, all the mahogany woodwork inside was revarnished with a traditional satin finish to keep in line with its old world charm.
The mast was removed and inspected then re-stepped.
New timber spreaders were made and all standing and running rigging replaced with new.
Half the timber cabin sole is original, the rest has been replaced with new.

Commentaires du Broker

An opportunity to own a real classic yacht, this Eugene Cornu designed Cutter has just been completely restored, originally built by C.N. Vandernortte, Nantes, France in 1961 she retains most of her original features.
The owners Say
"The restoration has been a labour of love.
We first saw her for sale in Langkawi, Malaysia and recognized straight away from her classic lines that she was special.
We were due for a holiday after Mike worked for two and a half years as Head Shipwright on the Cariad restoration project however she needed work straight away so we delayed our cruising and set about spending the next twelve months restoring her.
It became obvious very quickly from both inspection and research that she was a real thoroughbred !
The builders technique and workmanship and the fact that she had been kept so original made it a pleasure to repair the few problems she had in the hull, incurred by her long service over many ocean miles.
Vandernottes selection of the finest mahogany also helped to keep her so well for so long.
When we removed all the original canvas and plywood decks, the deck beams, bench shelf and carlin were in such good condition that you could still get a splinter from the top edge of them.
Another big part of her charm is in her original mahogany fit-out with all of her brass and bronze fixtures.
Overall it was a treat to work on her throughout because it is so rare today to find a wooden boat that has not been tampered with along the way.
Her original integrity has carried her through!"
