When you’re new to boating the mind boggles with all of the choices to make, but I have to say it’s fun doing your research! We have Colvic boats for sale, Crownline boats for sale, bow riders, fishing boats and cruising yachts for sale. If names like Princess, Fairline and Sealine leave you worrying that you don’t’ know your Jeanneau from your elbow, then get in touch with Steve who will be happy to talk things over with you. As an introduction I’ve outlined a few of the different kinds of motor boats we have listed at Boatshed Essex.

Cabin cruisers

A popular choice for recreational cruising, these will contain a galley, head and one or more berths. They could also include heating, air con, water heaters, a generator or a shore line for electric. Smaller boats are perfect for rivers and inland waterways, and may be powered by a propeller. Larger inboard cruisers are steered with a rudder.

High Performance Boats

For the budding James Bond within you; these will seduce you with sleek lines and high speeds. Enjoy precise handling and a shed load of engine power.

Motor Yachts

Perhaps most suitable for coastal or ocean cruising these boats are usually longer than 40ft. You will find sleeping berths and a galley on board, alongside the other benefits you’d find in a cabin cruiser. They are comfortable enough to stay on board for a few days allowing for longer journeys. Some styles offer a choice of a helm in the cabin or fly bridge.

Multihull

Like it says on the tin, this is a boat with more than one hull; usually a catamaran. Its speed and manoeuvrability make it a popular choice for racing. Obviously it will weigh much less than something with a single hull and can be easier for the crew to handle.

Fishing Boats

You could say that almost any boat is potentially a fishing boat, from a dinghy to a cabin cruiser or a yacht so long as it has fishing equipment on board. Therefore you could choose a sport fishing boat or invest in something larger like an ex-commercial fishing vessel.

If you’re still mulling things over why not look at the pictures to give you a better idea?
I love browsing all of the boats for sale and having a nose at the cabins inside!
